NEWS
one of the leaders of Wollo Fano forces under Mere Wodajo, has confirmed the news.
They were reportedly captured following days of intense fighting between Fano forces and government soldiers in several locations close to Woldia town.
It has been over three weeks now since the government declared what it called “final operation” against Fano forces in the Amhara region. Mechanized units and the air force have been mobilized and deployed. An additional 40,000 government forces have been deployed in the latest rounds of the operation.
Fano forces have been hailed for their captive handling practices.
According to the EMS report, many of the captives (the number is unspecified) have declared allegiance with Fano forces and have expressed interest to fight against Abiy Ahmed’s government forces.
Similarly Fano forces in Gojjam and Gonder have been releasing video footage recently purportedly showing captured government forces. At one point they have been calling for the Red Cross and other aid agencies “to accept the captives” as the cost of feeding them becomes a burden to the little resources that Fano has at its disposal.
